The Waveney Stardust 26th season cruises are underway at Brundall and Beccles. Customers who have cruised with us in the past weeks have had some unseasonably warm weather in which to enjoy the Broads. It is unusual to be able to combine such excellent weather with the lack of boating traffic.

For the first time we have also run a couple of ‘Taster’ sessions, designed to give organisations an idea of how our cruises might work for them. During these one hour sessions we are able to demonstrate just how easily accessible our boats are. We are able to demonstrate the ramps and platform-hoists for boarding and how safe and secure the boats are. And also to demonstrate the peace and beauty of the Broads. Looking further into the season we will taking part in some of our usual events. We are at the Horning Boat Show in a couple of weeks, and taking part in the Broads Outdoor Festival on May Day Bank Holiday (7th May). We will be at the Norfolk Show at the end of June and we will be providing short trips as part of the Beccles Charter Weekend at the beginning of July. 2018 Bookings Open today – the schedule has been finalised and the boats are being serviced and prepared for the new season.

For 2018 our we are cruising from Norwich, Brundall, Stalham and Beccles again. We have slightly amended our schedule of recent years to have a boat operating from Norwich in June and October. We have also extended our season in Beccles which has recently been our most popular cruising base.

We have unfortunately had to increase prices for 2018 to protect our ability to run a full schedule. Our cruise fees cover less than half of our operating costs with the balance made up by generous donations. We hope that you agree our cruises represent excellent value even with the price increase. And be assured that we are working hard to ensure that this continues.

In late August Waveney Stardust held a party at The Ferry Inn Surlingham to celebrate 25 seasons of Broads cruises for the elderly and disabled. Over these years we have carried 65,000 passengers and travelled over 85,000 miles.

Our two specially-commissioned craft were there. Both are equipped with a hydraulic lift for wheelchairs, ramps, and fully accessible toilet. With tea and coffee-making facilities and central heating we cruise from the beginning of April to the end of November. Visibility is excellent, providing the opportunity to experience all the drama of seasonal change in this fascinating landscape. [Why not book a cruise this Autumn?]

The majority of our 40 or so volunteers and many of our frequent customers came along to our celebration. We also welcomed Richard Stubbing, Mayor of Beccles, Professor Jacquie Burgess, Chairman of the Broads Authority and representatives from the many Boatyards and businesses which support Waveney Stardust including Broom Boats, Hippersons, Broadsedge Marina and The Waveney River Centre.

We all had a great time, and the rain held off until the last guest had gone home. Take a look at some of the photographs from the event in the slideshow above. The 2017 Schedule of cruises is now published and available on the website and our booking system. 2017 is our 25th Cruising Year and we look forward to seeing our customers old and new on the water through the year.

This year we are repeating last year’s pattern aiming to have a boat within a short distance of Norwich throughout the year. Waveney Stardust will be based in Norwich from 3rd April through to 19th May. After that Waveney Stardust II will be based at Brundall for most of June and most of August.

At other times Waveney Stardust will be based at either Horning or Stalham and Waveney Stardust II at Beccles – refer to our Venues page.

All of our bases offer the opportunity to experience the wildlife and beauty of the Broads as they change throughout the year from April through to the end of November.
