We currently need to fill the following Volunteer Vacancies:
Crew Members willing to become Skippers
Waveney Stardust is looking for new volunteer crew members to operate the cruises. We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers willing to work towards becoming a Skipper.
You will be joining a happy and professional team which provides a rewarding experience both for our passengers and volunteers. Between them the Skipper and Crew operate the boat trips of half or full day duration. This involves: handling the cruiser; helping disabled and elderly passengers embark and dis-embark; making and serving tea, coffee and soft drinks; and on return to dock making the boat ready for the next trip.
Volunteers must be over 18 and enjoy working with the elderly and disabled. Of course full training will be provided and whilst previous boat experience is an advantage it is not a pre-requisite.
Shore Support Officer
We monitor our cruisers whilst they are out to ensure the safety of our passengers and crews.
The role of the Shore Support Officer is to take a call from the skipper on departure, record the details or the cruise, number of passengers and crew. At the end of the cruise the skipper will call again to confirm safe return.
Also, to be available during the period of the cruise to instigate emergency procedures in the unlikely event of an incident.
This role could be carried out from home and would suit someone who is confined to home or works from home and has telephone and internet facilities.
The main requirements for this role are reliability, good record keeping and one to five days a week during the season.
Website, Booking System and IT Support and Development
Waveney Stardust rely on technology to support publicity, bookings, crew and boat scheduling and internal communications. We would like to recruit an additional Volunteer to work with our existing IT Officer to increase our strength in this area. The work includes technical and content maintenance for our public and internal websites and our booking system. In the short to medium term this is likely to include a significant update/re-host to the website. We would also like to bring experience of how to increase the marketing effectiveness of the website.
We are keen to publicise the charty’s work to as many new organisations, families and individuals as possible. We are always surprised at how many people say they have never heard of us. If you think you can help in our marketing activities.
This role would partcularly suit someone with a background in journalism, sales, marketing and PR. This may also appeal to someone studying any of these subjects as a way to gain hands on experience.
